OUR FIREARMS

#Firearmsafe provides the very best opportunity to learn and develop new skills, as we have deactivated tens of thousands of dollars worth of real firearms for your staff to train with. This ensures that your training package will be realistic, achievable and relevant to your workplace.

“Our firearms have been made inoperable and could never be used to discharge live ammunition again. However, we have kept the ability to chamber and eject dummy rounds to give the participants every opportunity to gain as much confidence, experience and understanding as possible.”

HEALTH & SAFETY

Our commitment to health and safety means that we are regularly audited by external organisations to ensure that our own procedures conform to industry standards and best practice. When planning firearm training, #Firearmsafe displays complete transparency in these processes and communicates them openly with the client to ensure that everyone is comfortable before the provision of services.

Should you wish to find out more about our health and safety policies and procedures please feel free to contact us.

SAFE SYSTEMS OF TRAINING

#Firearmsafe conducts its courses under an nine-point Safe Systems of Training (SAST) plan. These are both physical and procedural measures to ensure the welfare of the students, instructor and surrounding public.

PHYSICAL MEASURES

1. Shortened firing pins.

2. Use of dummy ammunition.

3. Drilled firearm barrels.

4. Blocked firearm barrels.

5. Each firearm is clearly marked as deactivated, inoperable and safe.

PROCEDURAL MEASURES

6. Safe storage and transportation of firearms.

7. Double-checking of firearms and dummy rounds before and after each course.

8. Health and safety policies regarding the safe use of deactivated firearms in public.

9. External audits of policies and procedures.

PHYSICAL MEASURE #1 - SHORTENED FIRING PINS

All of the firearms have had their firing pins ground short. This modification means that none of the rifles or shotguns have a firing pin that is long enough to strike a bullet or cartridge. Any firearm without a functioning firing pin is completely inoperable. No matter what the financial cost, if we cannot disable a firing pin, we do not include that firearm in our training package for students to use.

None of the #Firearmsafe firing pins are long enough to protrude through the bolt face and make contact with a primer.

PHYSICAL MEASURE #2 - SNAP CAPS AND DUMMY BULLETS

Snap caps are inert pieces of plastic that are bullet shaped and sized to a specific calibre. They allow the safe functioning and test firing of a rifle without any of the dangers associated with using live ammunition. They are clearly marked as dummy rounds and offer the student the chance to practice firearm handling in complete safety and with confidence.

PHYSICAL MEASURE #3 - DRILLED BARRELS

Each firearm has had multiple holes drilled in to its barrel. Not only does this compromise the integral strength of the barrel, it is a clear and overt indicator that the firearms we use are inoperable and completely safe.

PHYSICAL MEASURE #4 - BLOCKED FIREARM BARRELS

As well as being drilled, each training firearm has a completely obstructed barrel. This means that no projectile could ever leave the muzzle.

Once they have been welded they are painted and tagged.

Each shotgun barrel has been blocked, sealed, painted and tagged.

PHYSICAL MEASURE #5 - CLEAR DEACTIVATED FIREARM MARKINGS

Each firearm is clearly marked in three separate places that it is deactivated and inoperable.

  1. REAR - A sticker on the stock of the firearm stating “DEACTIVATED FIREARM”.

  2. MIDDLE - Bright yellow paint where the barrel has been drilled.

  3. FRONT - An identification tag through the muzzle of the firearm.
