SCHOOL FIREARM SAFETY COURSE

There is a growing number of students and educational staff who either through employment, or social activities may handle a firearm. Our aim is to educate and offer these individuals the opportunity to learn how to safely manage and control a firearm before they enter the workplace or learn bad habits.

We assess the attendees to the same standard as required in our work with the Mountain Safety Council and each attendee receives a certificate of learning and course attendance.

Our classroom is completely mobile and can be set up in any large space or gymnasium throughout New Zealand.

Specifically designed for younger learners this course covers both theory and practical elements. The day is broken down into two parts with lectures in the morning and practical skills in the afternoon. The practical element sees students learn to safely operate the different actions on our 60 deactivated training firearms.

The most impacting part of the whole day is getting the class to speak with Zane, a hunter who was misidentified as a deer in 2018 and shot in the chest. Zane brings home the importance of getting firearm safety correct and the consequences of getting it wrong. During his presentation, you can hear a pin drop in the class, as it can be seen on the faces of the students that they were hanging on his every word.

At the end of the day, our sponsors each provide a gift as we hold a special #firearmsafe raffle for the students.

We want those people who live, hunt or work in the rural community to stay #Firearmsafe!
